Q: Is there slicing technology, such as setting 5QI, RB resource reservation, etc.?

A: The following slicing technologies are available:

  • multi-PLMN: configuration of eNb/gNb to slice RAN based on UE SIM card PLMN
  • local epc: a local epc runs in ORS and is used by a subset of UEs with specific SIM cards
  • local 5gc: a local 5gc runs in ORS and is used by a subset of UEs with specific SIM cards
  • QCI
  • 5QI (how far must be confirmed)

The use of local epc and 5gc is ideal for low latency applications or for applications that should provide resiliency to backhaul outage. You can find below sample configurations for local epc/5gc using multiple-PLMN approach that was created for a customer in energy industry (published with their approval).

In this example, we are using two ORS, each of them running a local epc/5gc. Based on PLMN ID, UE will attach to one ORS or to the other. In case of handover from one ORS to the other, UE remains attached to the epc/5gc it was originally attached to.

The following slicing technologies are not available (yet):

  • RB resource reservation (but in the roadmap of Amarisoft)
